Royal New Zealand Air Force

De grote groepen bommenwerpers die tijdens de tweede wereldoorlog over Nederland vlogen richting Duitsland werden geleid door Royal Air Force Bomber Command. 
Naast Bomber Command coördineerde Fighter Command de jagers zoals de Spitfires en Hurricanes. Deze vliegtuigen werden ingezet voor de verdediging van het luchtruim, verkenningsvluchten, aanvallen op gronddoelen en als escort ter bescherming van de bommenwerpers.

De bemanning van de vliegtuigen bestond met name uit mannen van de Britse Royal Air Force (RAF), de Royal Canadian Airforce (RCAF), de Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF), de Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) en daarnaast uit andere landen van het bezette Europa zoals Polen, Fransen, Tsjechen, Noren en Nederlanders.
In Nederland kwamen in totaal naar schatting 5600 geallieerde en Duitse toestellen neer waarvan 48 in een straal van 10 kilometer rond Zutphen.

The large groups of bombers that flew over the Netherlands during the Second World War towards Germany were led by Royal Air Force Bomber Command.
In addition to Bomber Command, Fighter Command coordinated the fighters such as the Spitfires and Hurricanes. These aircraft were used for airspace defense, reconnaissance flights, attacks on ground targets and as an escort to protect the bombers.

485 RNZAF Squadron-crew - 1941

The crew of the aircraft mainly consisted of men from the British Royal Air Force (RAF), the Royal Canadian Airforce (RCAF), the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF), the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as well as other countries of occupied Europe such as Poles, French, Czechs, Norwegians and Dutch.
An estimated 5600 allied and German planes came down in the Netherlands, 48 of which were in a radius of 10 kilometers around Zutphen.
